You delete.
You write again.
You delete…again.
It happens. You hit the brick wall of creativity and you fall on your ass (with grace, of course).
You try to write and your writing feels boring. It doesn’t have that jolt of spunk that
Before you know it, your cooking begins to suffer. Your kids decide to go over to their friends’ house for dinner.
Let’s uncover some unique sources to rekindle the magic between you and your writing shall we?
Magazines
I am huge fan of magazine subscriptions. I have several: Women’s Health, Cosmopolitan, O’Magazine, Dance Spirit, People, US Weekly, and a few others and I read every darn one of them. I have a slight obsession with magazines.
Color in a Coloring Book
Drive yourself down to the local dollar store, grab a few coloring books, a box of crayola crayons, and just color.
Be free to color in or out of the lines. Allow your creativity to flow and your mind to wander aimlessly.
Read a Fiction Book
I was in the library the other day to pick up a business book I had on hold and I glanced at the new arrivals and saw, The Sweet Spot by Stephanie Evanovich. I. COULD. NOT. PUT. IT. DOWN. It was such a change of pace that I ran out and grabbed her other book too — Big Girl Panties. I read that book in less than two hours too.
I was so inspired, I was able to reconnect with my inner being and was able to write for 10 hours solid.
Thumb Through Comment Sections
Not creepy stalker-like. Go to your favorite blogs or website and read some of your favorite articles. Then read through the comment section. Often times, in the comment section you will find new resources, a different insight to a new perspective, and most times, you will find something that will spark an experience you may have had. Use that energy to write a post for your audience. Share your insight by using the KNOW, FEEL, DO concept.
Read Obituaries
Yes. As morbid as this may sound, read the obituaries. They represent lives that have lived. Some with regrets. Some utterly fulfilling. Some young, some old. All lived.
Take a moment to reflect on your own life and the many obstacles you have been faced and when something bad happens, tell yourself: “If this is the worse thing that has happened to you all day, then it is still a good day!”
