You know what you want to write yet now quite sure how to say it.
You know what the point you want to make, yet not certain how to articulate it.
You know what you want them to do, yet do not want to sound pushy.
Being a persuasive writer can send you into a tailspin, your palms become sweaty and your mind is racing with a gazillion thoughts. To be a persuasive writer you need a few simple steps to ease up the writing conundrum.
Next time you prepare to write an email, a post, or even a proposal to a new potential client. Begin with using this simple concept. A concept I began using from the witty and charming, Alexandra Franzen.
Step 1: How do I want my reader to FEEL?
Step 2: What do I want my reader to KNOW?
Step 3: What do I want my reader to DO?
Easy peasy, right.
Here’s an example of how I recently implemented this concept when I was writing for a client. She wanted to send out an email to her list. There was only one catch. She didn’t email them frequently and when she did, she was asking them to purchase something and they were not very responsive. OUCH!
We grabbed a piece of paper and wrote down the following:
How do we want the readers to FEEL?
Missed, Loved, Wanted, Desired.
What do we want the readers to KNOW?
They were missed, we valued their opinion, we are growing and we want them to be a part of it.
What do we want the readers to DO?
Reply back to us with their thoughts and opinions.
What happened next?
The email went out to over 1000 people and she received over 250 responses with 7 hours of the email going out. WOW! And, she has increased her membership by 20% too!
Your turn. Use the FEEL, KNOW, DO process and share the results.
