I recently had a Skype session with a client and she was super excited because she had written several emails to her mailing list. However, she was stuck. She had becoming increasingly overwhelmed with creating the email subject line and one that her mailing list would open. Only about 15% of her list was opening her emails and she wanted to increase those numbers.
Creating email subject lines does not have to be hard. Being clear on your purpose of the email + hitting an emotion that invokes action will increase your email open rate faster than you can say Pumpkin Spice Latte.
A few days passed and I realized this was a question I am frequently asked and I am sharing my process with you.
1. Curiosity gets clicks
Before: How to write with authority
After: The #1 secret all writers swear by is this…
2. Speak to the reader, not the process.
Before: Create a client intake process for success
After: Is your client intake process killing your revenue?
3. Ask provocative questions
Before: Are you ready to get your business on track?
After: Is your business headed for trouble? Find out for sure…
4. Say NO to jargon
Before: Why excel is the program loved by accountants
After: The tool that will make your life easier in business
5. Get personal
Before: Get my 5-step business guide
After: This ONE thing almost cost me my business…
6. Create urgency
Before: Let’s grow your business
After: Last day is to get (name of program/service), don’t get left behind
Now — a challenge: Pick a style that works for you and your readers. Choose one or two or a few of the email subject lines styles from above and use it in your next email. Report back. Share your results.
**As an update to my client, her email open rate increased by 20% after she started using several of the above styles.
